DWT Chemists Celebrate Earth Week

The chemistry of our water is a marvelous thing!  Dynamic Water Technologies joins with chemists around the world this month for Chemists Celebrate Earth Week beginning on April 19.Dynamic Water Technologies' own George Chac is a chemist and conservationist. He shared some of his thoughts on his job, his passions and why water should be important for all of us.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you think you’d be doing what you’re doing today?

I wanted to be a racecar driver.  My career still funds that hobby today.  I never thought I’d be in water treatment – my family stereotypically wanted me to be a doctor, but being a chemical engineer was a nice balance between being a scientist and being an engineer.

Tell us about your typical day at Dynamic Water Technologies.

I don’t think any day is typical at my job – partly because we are still a growing business and there are many hats that everyone has to wear here.  My hats range from being a technician performing on-field troubleshooting, to being a salesman trying to close deals and open leads.  But my main responsibilities here include engineering the technology for new projects, managing those projects, collecting data to further the performance of the technology, research & development making changes through the reactors and tabulating the effects of those changes, and then documenting those changes to write patents.

What is one thing you’ve learned about water that surprised you?

How little people care about it.  They think that turning the faucet will always yield a nice, clean, stream of water – and that is a notion that is severely taken for granted.  Water is a limited resource, and we are burning through it faster than it can replace itself.  It’s only through sustainable technologies like the ones we provide that humanity is going to keep living here for hundreds or thousands of generations.
